Why not just shut the animation off?
For I.E. users go to the top of your browser. Click Tools, internet options, then advanced. Now scroll down to Multimedia and click that little box that says, "PLAY ANIMATIONS". And there ya have it folks...... no more animation but you still have the ad banner. Makes us all so happy......

Jim...
yeah that is a good idea if you never want to see any kind of animation. However, at other sites there might some animation that we want to see and then we would have to change that preference all the time. The jeep on is the only that gets on my nerves because even on a 486 it is way too fast.
Joel, Scott...
why can't the banners be non-animated. The advertizing would still be there, but it would not be nearly so annoying, just there if we want to click on them....

Myself, I like Joel's suggestion in Bleeding Edge's thread. Hitting the "Stop" button! /forum/wink.gif
Simple yet clever.
Little stuff like that just makes my day...

deep_sky: I've shared everyone's thoughts with EarthWeb's advertising folks. Hopefully they will listen up. I am just as annoyed by the about.com ads. However, as Editor-in-Chief, I'm in charge of content, not ad sales, and the site is owned by EarthWeb. Still, they aren't going to like knowing that particular ads offend SysOpt's audience and I'm sure something will be done about it.
I really think it's irresponsible of advertisers to create annoying banners because all they do is make people want to tune them out even more, thereby lowering the click through rates of all ads.

Another way to get rid of most ads is to use a program called ad wiper. You can get it at http://www.webwiper.com it actually works pretty well.

Nutcase, that is not the point. In order for sites like sysopt to exist, they need to have that advertisement. Otherwise the companies who pay for the right to place those banners on the page will go somewhere else and sysopt will no longer exist due to lack of money. I do not mind the advertisement per se, I mind the annoying animation. I undestand that advertisement necessary to have so that we can use this and other sites' services for free.
Please, everyone, we all use and like this site; don't contribute to its demise by speading ad-blockers around. thanks...
