i'm sure this has been asked before but I'm still getting too much lag and too high a ping sometimes when playing unreal. just wondering what I should set the ip packet size to. makes sense to me that small would be best for low ping but I'm usually incorrect. also when I set baud rate to 9600 instead of 115000 I get much better ping. why is this? should I set it at a different baud rate. ping is usually around 200 in games which isn't bad but it jumps up and down too much causing my lag.

Recently, I had severe lags with online multiplay. This was with MotorHead (give it a try www.sysopt.com/forum/Forum8/HTML/000193.html (http://www.sysopt.com/forum/Forum8/HTML/000193.html) ) and not UnReal. It shouldn't matter too much which game your playing tho'. I couldn't figure out what was wrong. Diffult cult time getting into the game, pre-game chat lags.... Anyhow, if your using a regular modem, do the following.
-Lower the receive buffer to Windows default value. That's all. It should be better. (This is in the modem's port settings.)
Packet size, I leave to automatic. Yes, a smaller value would seem to be better but "if it ain't broke...".

thx bleeding edge i'll give it a try.
Use a smaller packet size if you are experiencing packet loss.A smaller packet size will reduce the amount of info loss.
You might try heading over to tweak3d and read over his modem tweak guide. This helped me alot.
Do not confuse packet loss with a high ping, with packet loss you lose some of the info contained within the packet(you don't see the rocket that someone just fragged you with). With high ping you see it but it is jerky and slow.
If anyone wants to expand on this pls fell free.
