I've got a DOS program (Junkbuster) which *always* opens full-screen. I must hit ALT-ENTER to force it back to windowed mode, then the font is too small and I must change it manually. Even after I change it, the next time it starts full screen, too-small font. How can I make my changes stick? Thanks.

There should be a shortcut (or .PIF file) associated with the program. It probably has the same name as the DOS executable file, and is usually in the same directory. Find the shortcut in Windows Explorer, then do the following:
- Right click on it and select "Properties."
- Click on the "Screen" tab
- Change the setting from "Full-screen" to "Window"
- If you need to, go to the "Font" tab and change the font size
- Click "OK" and next time you run the program it should work the way you want it
Good Luck, http://www.sysopt.com/forum/wink.gif

The weird thing here is, I start the program from a shortcut on the Desktop. There's no Screen tab that comes up - only General, Shortcut and NetWare Version. Under Shortcut, there is a RUN dropbox, and I've selected Normal Window, but it doesn't seem to make a difference.
When I go to the directory where the executable is and get Properties for it, the only tabs available are General and NetWare Version. I'm beginning to think there are Policies in place removing the other tabs...

I guess if you're working in a networked environment all bets are off.
Wait a minute, maybe Windows doesn't think it's a DOS program. Look at the properties of another shortcut like "MS-DOS Prompt" and see if you have the same tabs. When I look at this one it has 6 tabs; General, Program, Font, Memory, and Misc. But, when I look at a shortcut for a Windows program, just 2 tabs, General and Shortcut.
Try this to see if it works (no guarantees):
- Right-click on the desktop and select "New" then "Shortcut"
- Browse to c:\command.com or c:\windows\command.com or any other DOS program that you know will give you 6 tabs
- Name the shortcut the name of your program and click "Finish"
- Right-click on the new shortcut and select "Properties"
- On the Program tab change the Command Line and Working Directory paths to point to your program
- Close the window
- Cross your fingers and see if the shortcut works
If this works, you may be able to trick Windows into giving you the tabs you need.
Let me know if it works...

Thanks for the suggestion Howste. Interestingly, I can create a shortcut to the MS-DOS prompt, then edit the Properties so that it points to the Junkbuster program, but when I use the shortcut to open it, it doesn't filter out ads like it's supposed to. Weirdly enough, it is still working as a proxy (I can access Web pages) it just doesn't seem to be paying attention. Same thing happens if I create a batchfile that runs the executable. <sigh> I'll see if I can get Junkbuster Inc to respond to support mail.
