Dave -
I need a little more information on what happened to your system and what you're trying to do. Simplest thing would probably be for you to e-mail me and we can get you going. I did quite a bit of DOS in the "old days".

daveleau, sounds like you're missing the file sys.com. Do you happen to have another system running that you could copy that file from onto your floppy disk? It would be located in the C:\WINDOWS\COMMAND directory.
I think you need to type "sys a: c:" from the a:\ prompt, instead of only "sys c:", without the quotes of course. Good luck.

Actually Eli, if sys.com is on the floppy drive and you are at the 'A:' prompt then 'sys c:' is sufficient.

Drizzle is bang on, Dave. The file is called sys.com and is found in the Windows\Command directory. Copy it onto your bootable floppy, boot up off it and type SYS C: and all should be well http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif.
Hope you get it working again soon http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif.
I must be misaken. I thought for sure the last few times I've used it (both W95 and 98) that I needed to include the a: for it to work.

Hi Dave!
You can use a startup disk with the OS system files on it that is on the hard drive you are sysing. Type at the A prompt
sys c:

If you have a Quantum Bigfoot drive, it may be an issue. Read here or there about a patch or some fix. My HP w/Q-drive died. Install old other drive, fixed !! my .02 worth , DrVette

I am trying to reinstall my system files fromt eh boot disk. What DOS command do I use? a:\sys c: did not work. Is there an app I need to copy to the boot disk? Thanks
Dave
What results (on the screen) did you get when you entered sys c:
That command should do the trick from the prompt.

put this line in your autoexec.bat:
set path=c:\windows\command

Surely if he sets the command path to Windows he'll have DOS throwing a slight wobbly!
Remember, he's installing the system from FD's so C:\windows\command isn't even there yet...

LOL! If you boot off the floppy, and have the sys command on the root of the floppy, there is no need to set the path command as DOS will search the current directory.

Having the sys command on the boot floppy and the following command
sys a:\ c: always works for me.

C:\WINDOWS\Desktop>sys /?
Copies MS-DOS system files and command interpreter to a disk you specify.
SYS [drive1:][path] drive2:
[drive1:][path] Specifies the location of the system files.
drive2: Specifies the drive the files are to be copied to.
C:\WINDOWS\Desktop>
Looks like [drive1:] is only needed if you are not currently at the DOS prompt of the drive that contains the system files you want to use on drive2:. Humm, that's almost confusing. http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif
