when i boot my system i get a primary drive failure error.
my system boots normally when i restart with
ctrl+alt+del
my system date is correct and my bios is
award modular bios v4.51pg on an asus motherboard could you help me please
once you get in, have you done a virus scan after updating your definitions files?
a scandisk/defrag of the drive may either correct or kill the drive depending on what the problem is.
ASUS does have a BIOS upgrade available on their home page and directions for a successful flash, but I seriously doubt that's your problem or the fix for it.
Norton disk doctor may be of help to you.
Diskeeper by executive software may be another product you want to look at -
Then you could always go to the web page of the drive manufacturer and see if they have a tool like western digital's disk lifeguard - I think that's the name of it.
another question - is the drive compressed? Compressing your operating system is a bad idea in general.

What brand/model is disc? What if anything is attached to the same cable as a slave. And how are the jumpers set on each device? One more silly question, is the cable securely attached?

That would be my first question, is the IDE cable securely attached to the MB AND the socket in the back of the drive?
Also, check the power connection to the HD. See if it's loose.
Seems odd that it doesn't work, then does...
Good Luck With It...
