Microsoft word locks up at startup

When trying to open Microsoft Word it locks up. I have office 97 with service patch 2. All of the other programs work fine like excel, powerpoint and Access. I have uninstalled it and reinstalled it, it didn't help. I have used this program before and it did work. The operating system is win 95. But I think it is in the software because I had the same problem on a different win98 system. But I have installed it on yet another win98 system and everything worked fine. Any suggestions?

it sounds like you might have had a bad software load or your software got corrupted somehow. i had something similar happen to me, after installing the service patches from a cdrom that i got from microsoft. what i did to be safe was that i swiped and reloaded but did not use the patch cdrom, used another one that i got from a friend and works fine.

Thanks but i loaded the service patches, that i have used before and they worked fine before. I have also read about lowering the hardware accelateration for the video driver. But this did not help either.

try reinstalling the software. But before going thru it try running System File Checker. In you Windows run option type sfc and it will check your system files for corrupted ones.
