"Unfortunatly the SuSE Linux I bought on the advise of Software Warehouse wont assemble correctly on anything but a Pentium."
Interesting problem. I thought all the Linux would install as if they were running on a 386 - but that must not be the case. I know that there is an optimized kernel for the 686 but I kind of thought you would have to install first and then recompile in order to use it.
I've been looking at the SuSE website, but haven't found anything yet, then it occured to me - why don't you just pop for $49 - $59 and put a Pentium 233 into your system?
You could indeed run Linux on a Celeron (very well) as well as a Pentium. After reading some of the support items at the SuSE website I would also steer clear of AMD processors with SuSE Linux.
If you buy a drive especially for Linux I would suggest you buy one under 8GB as you may run into unnecessary frustration setting one up that is larger due to certain current software limitations.
