Hardrive Sleeping

I recall my hardrive used to sleep after a certain time. Now it does not even after I set my bios and power mangement to do so. Does anyone know why?

If you have both the bios and the windows power mgmt setup to allow your HD to enter "sleep" or power-down mode after a set time, then I would guess that the reason its not doing so is because the drive is in use.

I could be way off base, but doesn't the power mgmt timer begin after the last disk access is performed? Meaning, that if you or some other software keep accessing programs/data on the disk, then the counter is continually being reset to zero and the power-down countdown begins again, which would give the illusion that it never enters sleep mode.

Ok, could it be because I have recently purchased a Cable modem and for the most part I leave it on all the time? Also, is it OK to have the hardrive on all the time?
