Boot screen reports udma mode2 and I am running an althlon500 on a FIC sd-11 mobo and ibm deskstar hdd with udma66. I updated bios, using correct hdd cable, and did the windows thing ,checking the dma box ect. This board comes with ami bios and as far as I know there"s nowhere to enable udma66.Thanks for any help on this.

I don't have that board but the first thing I'd do is comb thru the board manual for any info on setting the udma 66 mode in the bios.
Next check the FIC site at www.fica.com (http://www.fica.com) for a bios newer than the one you have.
Also, I've seen posts that indicate some hdd's must have a udma 66 bios installed to enable the 66 speed. Check with IBM on that.
Good luck!

I've got a IBM DeskStar hard drive; they work in 66 mode straight out of the box. I'm using an EpoX MVP3G5 motherboard and getting awesome speeds on my HD! Seek time is 5.5 right now. For anyone shopping for a motherboard -- get this one! It rocks!

Thanks for your input. I have tried this but to no avail. Also waiting for a callback from fic tech support, (2 days so far).

Have you tried a new cable? I got a bad one from TYAN mb, right out of the box. I have an IBM also, and it works fine now. There was nothing obviously wrong with the cable, it just flat would not go to 66, only 33. Any it was the 80 wire unit, not the 40.

Good luck...

Thanks again, I am using the 66 cable but I'll go get a new one tomorrow and see if that takes care of it. This is a great drive and the only problem with my system since I first fired it up 2 weeks ago.

Some things to check:
Are you sure the drivers for the ATA66 controller are installed properly?
At boot-up, you should be given the option of going into the ATA66 controller BIOS settings to set the mode. Have you seen this?
In the motherboard's main BIOS, can you specify the ATA66 as a boot option?
Good Luck!

You should see a seperate boot screen for the ATA66 controller during boot but after your initial screen where you go into the motherboard BIOS. If you don't see it I question whether your controller drivers are properly installed.

OK, reloded the IDE bus mastering driver (high point pro??) boot screen reports UDMA Mode 4 now but HDD benchmark that IBM said to
use indicates I am only reading at 33 ://www.tcdlabs.com/hdtach.htm
