Hi, as a serious UnrealT player I bought a GEForce 256 Annihilator Pro video card to replace my Viper V550.
Last night I uninstalled all the Vipers drivers 'intools' and swapped the cards over.
when the machine went back into windows the system 'refound' all my hardware and installed the drivers including the new card.
after a further soft boot the machine got the the windows login screen and started the produce a two tone beep from the PC speaker and subsequently the PC ground to a halt and crashed.
I initally thought it was a processor overheat but while checking the BIOS setting after a further boot the beep occured again (while in the BIOS setup). checked the processor and video card and found that they were only slightly warm
I have moved all the cards in the PC about and additionally remove the power to various bit of hardware (thinking it may be a power drain problem) but no success.
left the machine alone until this morning and tried it again. All seems to be working, logged into Windows and did a few things, no problems. I am unable to get the machine to accept any resolution apart from 640x480 thought (the machine does have all the correct drivers load (and reloaded)). the setting are accepted but after a reboot it sets itself back to 640x480
Now, what do I do tonight if the machine starts beeping again, and why won't the system allow me to change the resolution.
my setup is.
Win 98 SE
Giga-byte GA-686BX Mb
intel 82440 BX AGP chipset
PII 450 processor
128mb ram
2 x IDE H/D
1 x DVD rom
1 x CDrW
sb live
firewire (Pyro) card
Adaptec ScSi card with internal CDrom
US Robotic modem (Internal)
Ne2000 compatible Ethernet 802.3
any clues before I go home as I'm in trouble with the wife if I can't get it running as she a 'Sims' addict.. ahhhhhhhh.
