Click to See Complete Forum and Search --> : 3d Games freeze, upgraded video drivers, can it be the mobo? mattzaiser 02-26-2000, 07:43 PM i have a p2 4oo, 64 mb ram, voodoo 3 3ooo, and all 3d games freeze when i play them, could there be a a problem with my mobo? i have updated my video card drivers, could updating my bios fix this problem? Target 02-26-2000, 10:35 PM Its hard to say if a bios upgrade will fix any incompatibilities between your vid card and the mobo. Especially since you didn't mention what mobo brand and model you have. However, my experience has shown that 3d games freeze when the PCI or AGP bus speeds are set too high due to over-clocking. Is your system over-clocked? What games are you having issues with? grandslammer 02-27-2000, 02:46 AM Absolutely, what speed do you have your FSB set to? MIke P. mattzaiser 02-27-2000, 07:44 AM I dont know who makes the mobo, and i have never overclocked it, or changed any configuration on it since i got it. and im having problems with all 3d games, Turok2, Q3, UT, midtown madness, half life, They all freeze when i use Glide, or Direct 3d, but not when i use software rendering. Thanks Wiz 02-27-2000, 08:53 AM the voodoo3 might be overheating, put another heatsink on it. phecky 02-28-2000, 01:05 AM Very strange! Who made the card? You shouldn't have any problem running those games with that chip! Take it back! zoomer 02-28-2000, 01:14 AM Does this happen all the time, or did any of these games work before? mattzaiser 02-28-2000, 02:38 PM I got the computer, and it came with an INtel i740, and games froze, so i figured a new card would fix it, so i boutght a viper 770 with the tnt2 chip, i couldnt get it to work at all... so i returned it for the voodoo3 3k, and all games that use the card freeze, unless it is at extremely low resolution. ram 02-28-2000, 03:03 PM do you happen to be using directx/7 ? If so that could be your problem, you can leave directx installed but the 3dfx drivers are messed up for the voodoo cards, install your drivers from the voodoo cd or go download the V1.8 drivers from 3DFx site. RobRich 02-28-2000, 03:19 PM At boot enter your bios and check the follow settings: Video Shawdow: disable Video Caching: disable Assign Video IRQ: enable Another possible problem would be memory timings. If you have the option, in your bios: serial presence detect: enable Or if you do not, try changing you memory timings to higher numbers. thompjo 02-29-2000, 08:27 AM It sounds like a software issue for sure. I don't think it's the motherboard. I would try uninstalling the videocard and all it's software that comes with it. Restart the computer and reload your original drivers. Sometimes new drivers can be BETA and not work right. http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif Okay so maybe I'm dumb... http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif I try and try...hope that helps a tad.
