Does anyone know how to get rid of the Compaq 'Homebase' and boot directly into Windows? It takes forever and is very annoying, but I can't get rid of it.
This computer was set up so the user can 'jump' from one workstation to the next via Homebase- but there's absolutely no use for it in this (or any?!) case.

OK. I'll bite. What's Homebase?
Homebase was loaded into the Compaq Presario that I've got and it's supposed to make the machine more 'user-friendly'. Basically, after the computer boots up, instead of starting at the network login and proceeding to the desktop, it brings you to 'Homebase'- a Compaq-designed interface. This interface allows you to either go into your machine or other users' that you are networked with. However, there is no use for it, especially if you already have drives mapped to locations you might use. The end result is a painfully slow startup with no payoff.

Never heard of it ...but why don't you just reformat and install the stuff that you want?
If you don't want home base at all:
Change the shell= to windows explorer in the system.ini file. It should be set to the compaq shell. If the compaq shell isn't running, then home base won't run.
Keep a copy of the old line just in case you need to get into the help in home base sometime.
My system doesn't stop at home base when I boot. I think I set something at one point in life, but can't remember what it was. It made home base boot to the last user.
