Are you connecting to the internet through a proxy server or are you using some additional webb software which tries to cache web pages. It sounds like something is interveaning and preventing you from seeing the lastest version of the webb page. Thy your refresh button.

Yeah I've been giving it some thought and that's pretty much the best I can come up with, that your ISP is using a caching server which, for some reason, isn't being updated after you post, or that you're using a proxy server. Or like toms111 suggested, perhaps you're using software on your own PC that manages page caching. Try turning the caching of pages off in your browser and see if that makes a difference.

From your description, I'd be willing to bet some good 50 pesos that it's your ISP. Connect through NetZero, Altavista, or something free just to test it, and I bet the problem will go away.
The reason it would be an X amount of time is that is the time interval that the ISP caching server waits before checking for an update on sysopt.com
I hope we can figure this out, be a shame to see you go. I'm going to have to agree with Scott and Toms111. My computer at work, the one I'm on now, tends to do that alot, but I don't have that problem from home. At work, I'm behind a massive firewall, and a lot of times, I have to hit refresh constantly, or stare at the same page for two days wondering why no one is posting anything. Try using your refresh, because if I recall, you do have your own firewall, but I could be wrong. Or try Joel's suggestion, using a different ISP to see if it works better for you. Like I said, it would be a shame to see you go for such a silly reason as this. Now, if you want to cuss me out, I'm sure Scott and Joel wouldn't have a problem with showing you the way out, but I think you're too nice for that. /forum/smile.gif Later-

Since I am not using a proxy server nor do I have a third party web soft, I'll try the free ISP route.
If it ends up being the ISP, I've been busting my head for nothing. I guess I might as well try both NetZero and AltaVista.
By the way my ISP is EarthLink/Mindspring.

For the record, what browser are you using? I have noticed that with IE4/5, the cache is harder to get updated, but with Navigator 4 (my preferred browser), I can do a right-click->Reload, and that will update the page, though this does not always updat to the latest images (if they have changed).
So the other idea is to use the other browser available for a while and see if you have the problem there.
FYI, I use Earthlink/Navigator 4 and I have no problems. :-/

I'm on the same ISP - ELN/Mindspring and running a proxy on IE5. No problems with IE5 or Netscape 4.6. I hope a solution is found.
If anyone has a clue, please post it. I also alerted re: Nathan's font smoothing question in another thread.
BE, your problem is that your web pages are being cached and not refreshed properly every time you visit the page. Could be a prob with your browser settings or your browser itself or you just need to empty out all internet cached data and temp files.
Worth a shot.

Hi all!
I'm having problems viewing replies in these threads. Mostly my own, but some of yours too. I can't seem to track down the problem. It is specific to this message board. The main topics page updates fine. It accurately reflects the current number of replies to each post. However, the new replies (to the posts that I reply to) themselves aren't viewable. Meaning, when I reply to a post, the main topics page will show that a new reply (as reflected in the number of replies) has been added but when I click on the that post, my reply isn't there...nor do I see some of the replies to the same post after mine. Other posts/replies seem to be fine.
This prevents me from doing any follow-ups to the questions and makes me kinda useless here. I tried everything I could think of. No foreign files have been initiated on this system except for one of MicroSoft's security updates, DirectX7 and a Word document from a trusted member here at SysOpt.
Short of doing a clean reinstall, I don't know what to do. So as this topic suggests, I don't think I can participate effectively anymore and will be quite scarce from now on.
-tis be a 'boo' for me....
By the way, those new motherboards with the Carmel (Intel 840) chipset, are they the dual processor version of the Camino i820 chipset? http://www.supermicro.com/PRODUCT/MotherBoards/840/PIIIDM6.htm
oh...another odd thing, I can post a new topic and view it fine. I can even delete my new topic.
But if I try to reply, edit or delete the replies to it...the "stuff" happens.
~edit
Note: After some time, (I'm not certain if it is after an 'x' number of replies after mine are posted or if its after a certain amount of time passes or what) the repies become are view to some posts and not others. Eventually all but by then, the topic could resolved....

I emptied out the History, Cookies and Temp Internet folders the other day...no go.
How do I empty out the Intenet cache? Where is it?
~edit
Yes, I'm using the most recent IExplorer5. Always have been. I'm just connected thru my brother's AT&T account on this computer. If this edit is viewable, I will try a test reply below.

Ah, so you're using IE then. /forum/wink.gif
At least give Navigator 4 another chance... it deserves it. /forum/smile.gif
It's in Internet Options, and Delete Temporary Internet Files, just above the Clear History button on the first tab.

Do you happen to use NetSonic? I downloaded the free version and it would not refresh pages either. If you bought it then it would. Needless to say its been uninstalled. Just wondering...

AaaaRRRRgH! Its my ISP!!!
I emailed my ISP about this yesterday. Mentioned it to SocalGal and Nathan. I hope they know a problem exists because I doubt they would do anything just so I can continue participating here with you all. I couldn't phrase it right, didn't know what exactly I was talking about. "Your caching server's isn't updating sysopt.com's site." Something along that line.
Can you help me just a little bit further and give me the proper question to ask my ISP techs?
My ISP! I'd never have thought. Its such an isolated thing...you know?
Scott. Joel. MrEd. Toms111. SocalGal. BBA. Blade_164. Nathan -Thanx.
Earthlink/MindSpring isn't really bad, I don't think.
~edit
Now What am I going to do? I can't (and don't want to) to continue hijacking my brother's account...

If you are having technical problems, contact our Technical Support Department at 1-800-890-5128. When contacting Technical Support, please be ready to provide the following information:
1.The type of computer you have
2.The type and version of operating system you are using (Windows 3.1, Windows 95, Macintosh 7.5.3, etc.)
3.The make and model of your modem
4.The exact error message you are getting
5.The modem initializing string you are using
6.The dial-up number you are using to connect to EarthLink Sprint
7.The version of TotalAccess software you are using to connect to EarthLink, or information about other software you are using to connect.
Email address: (and the good part) /forum/smile.gif
support@earthlink.net
I'd suggest emailing them about it and requesting that they either stop caching the domain sysopt.com altogether or just the sysopt.com/forum directory structure. Just tell them it changes too frequently and is not accessed enough to be cached.
Oh, and the rest of you could put together a similar email - if they got several of these things, they might listen. It'd be ok to include a link back to this thread as well.
Guess it's time to see just how good Earthlink support really is. /forum/smile.gif

Could it be a problem with the TotalAccess software?
I never installed the TotalAccess software.. I run a straight dialup manually configured..

I, too have Mindspring/Earthlink and have no problems here at SysOpt. I never installed any of Mindpsrings software either.

Test~
No. I don't use the MindSpring/Earthlink soft either.
Just spoke to Tech over the phone. They gave me a third set of DNS numbers. Tried it with the same access number. No-go.
They gave me two more (unlisted numbers) for my area. Trying the first with the new DNS number now. Looks good.
Note: Will be trying various number/DNS combos. Please excuse my following edits/replies....
~edit
Works with second # and new DNS address. Connect rate on both 48000. Slightly lower then my normal 50000+.
Will try new number/old DNS now.

New number old DNS. -looks okay.
~edit
Second number W/old DNS seems fine too.
I guess the problem is the caching server on the network I was dialing into from my original access number.
Must call tech back and do a follow-up and let them know the results.
Thanks for your time and considerations.
