and nod to zit-boy with the 2.99 Target tie and his manager behind the counter, then stroll over to where the thermal compound and fans are. Sensing eyeballs on my back while comparing 4" fans, I slowly stand up and turn around. "You gonna overclock your PC?", zit-boy sneered. I said yes and Mr. Fatso Manager lifts an eyebrow and waddles over.(Insert Middle-East accent here) "I no understand why you overclock! You are customer number 3 who do same thing! We come off Daylight Savings Time this weekend anyways, so is it not foolish?" I look at him incredulously, and decide to have some fun with Abdul. Zit-boy snorts and stifles a laugh as I explain the intricacies of the recently discovered easter egg in Win98, the Time Acceleration option. Soon he loses me and mumbles away(Arabic curses?)glossy-eyed as I skip to the counter with my paste and fan and slap down my plastic for pizza-face to ring up. "Poor *******", I muse sympathetically as I fake a smile and turn towards the exit with my bag. As I hit the door chime(you know the sound)I turn back and grin at Abdul as he was straightening out the VHF antennas and cordless phones.
"Stick to what you know, my friend", I think as I spin around and whistle towards my car.
This is a true story.......

I KNEW I wasnt the only one who thought that the ratio of cool stuff/monkey employees was a little skewed at that place.

First, whay would you want a radio shack fan, it is not even 120mm, it is slow, and it is more than $20, go to 2cooltek.com and get a 120 high speed and heatsink compound for what you pay at radio shack, including shipping. By the way, a while back I was looking for a bigger heatsink, I checked them out and they didn't even have a slot 1 heatsink! I asked the manager if they have anything for the Pentium 2 and he gave me a 486 heatsink.
I was in RS a week ago asking for thermal paste....ha, poor girl, didn't have a clue.
But from what I hear the Canadian RS's are waaaaay different...I'd never be able to fine anything as simple as a case fan in one.

Well, I should feel lucky that in the Radio Shack the employees know how to overclock and they like to do it. In fact, in this area, the Radio Shack guys are all Linux fans, very knowledgeable and ex-Unix users. They changed the store's name from Tech of America to RadioShack.com.I guess I am very lucky.

Yeah radio shack employees cease to amaze me. They seem like they are high school drop outs, trying to look/act cool.
I have the radio shack 4" fan also. It is a 120 volt fan, and so is one of my 3" fans. The 4" from R.S. was $18, and the 3" was $15. I opted this route so I wouldn't put as much of a strain on my power supply running one 4" fan, three 3" fans, and 3 fans on the heatsink.

I had a couple of $5 off coupons laying around so I picked up a couple Gamma 28s at RadioShack not long ago. At $4.99 it is hard to beat their price. You also don't have to wait for them to get shipped to you at RS, compared to 2CoolTek. They asked what I waas going to use them on and looked quite bewildered when I said they were going in my computer. Fact is though, they usually look bewildered at the answer to that question.

We have a cut-down version of RS here in the UK under the Tandy name. Jeez I envy you USA guys. I'm lucky if I get a 3-way power extension cable. Most component stock seems to be audio jacks and cabling. Anyone else in the UK notice this disparity?
Oh, and FYI, the staff are just the same /forum/smile.gif
Whenever I buy something (mini audio jack, box of FDDs, whatever) they ask for my name and address so I can go on their snailmail spam list.
"That's £4.99 in total"
U-96 hands over cash
"Can I have your name and address?"
"No."
First rule of selling - don't allow refusal as an option. I know, I work in fundraising occasionally /forum/smile.gif

Know what you mean.I buy various stuff from RS(the same store)here in Atlanta. The salesperson always asks me my name and address.I reply,"I'm on your mailing list".They say, "We need it anyhow".So,I give them a different name/address for the heck of it.Funny thing is,when I gave them my real name/address,I didn't get any garbage mail from them!!!!
