Friend has problem with power supply

My friend tells me that his power supply fans just stops and it starts to get real hot, and then his CD drive just opens and closes like crazy. Anyone know whats wrong? Help please, friend needs to use his puter.

Sounds like it's time for a new PS for your friend.

And tell him to keep the system off until he get's a new one. http://www.sysopt.com/forum/wink.gif It can do damage to the motherboard or other components in the system.

my fan on the power supply locked up about a year ago so i took the cover off and ran it that way until about a week ago when i decided to replace the fan. you can get one off an old pc or go to radio hack.

FreeM, I will say if you ran it like that for that long...I would be buying alot of lotto tickets cause your LUCKY!

I have seen people bring their computers to me with the PS literally melted inside and wonder why they still cant get their computer to power up after they bought a new powersupply (bought the powersupply/Fan to late!)
