Since i cannot start my ide-drive i want to get access to my data(german: eigene dateien) on system-partition to save them.
Thats why i connected this IDE-drive to my SATA-system. winxp pro
If i point the mouse to the right location i can see "Eigene Dateien" but inside not.
Pls check also my other thread: finding system-recovery point Thanks

Take ownership of the drive or you will see nothing.
http://www.microsoft.com/resources/documentation/windows/xp/all/proddocs/en-us/acl_take_ownership.mspx?mfr=true

You have to do that every time, when you more the hdd from one computer to another

Thanks train, I dont shift drives from pc1 to pc2. I already had this earlier what you meant.

its only this folder which i couldnt see when drive was monted as second drive.
I could finally copy this folder from withing save mode to a usb-drive.

btw: when i started copying to floppy-drive, every time the discs had to be formatted. Attention: only use discs with free space. its a pity it does not say continue, when disc is full. instead it says "repeat" which is misunderstandable.

problem 2:
my only or newest ghost-image of system had been infected, so i deleted it.
no chance to reconstruct systempartition.

Maybe you need a USB drive.
Example:

I have flashdrives too but prefer larger ones-hdd-usb-drives since i had multiple bad ones.
I will then switch the cables when switching pcs. Any other better solution?

I use the thumb drives like I did floppies.

But if you do not use the Safely remove option in Windows, you will ruin them real quick.

I used flashdrives but later, when i used a second internet-pc i switched to larger 500gb-usb-drive. I will switch from one cable to the other since i rarely use both at the same time.
thank you very much. very helpful like always
