A friend of mine (really!) HA! Has problems using IE to connect to some sites. He says his content advisor is turned on. BUT, it wasn't him that set the password, so he can't turn it off. I communicate with him via e-mail, and he's a relative newbie.

Now some passwords are saved as .pwl files. It's easy to do a search for them, and then delete them, removing the passwords. However, the content advisor evidently doesn't save them as the same type of file.

Does anyone know how the content advisor password is saved, what file extension to look for, and/or how to disable it?

Thanks for any help here. My friend and I thank you.

have no idea where the pw would be, doing tech support for an ISP we just tell customers to uninstall and reinstall IE...

Thanks. I had that thought, but I figured I'd check around first.

Thanks.

DON'T REINSTALL FOR THAT !!!

sorry ... okay, this is VERY simple. the first step is to rename the C:\Windows\System\Ratings.pol file to *.old (if it even exists). After that just go to the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curr entVersion\Policies\Ratings and delete it the Policies subkey. After it's deleted, just close out of regedit and open up your browser, no need to restart. Doing this just completely resets the content advisor and if you want to use it again you just need to go back in and specify your settings and a new password and you're done.

Quick and painless and there's NEVER a need to reinstall anything for this problem. I hope this helps you out!
