A good port, a good port, my kingdom for a good port! geeeeesh!

Okay, you guys are gonna be sick of me. I crashed(i know, I know) I installed a talking e-mail program(I know, and yes I have learned my lesson) and then realized I couldn't use it....so I uninstalled it and it sucked some of windows out.

I reinstalled windows and now my LPT2 parallel port for my scanner is messed up.

If I install the drivers for the scanner and the Twain device then reboot...windows comes up and then the sound sticks and sounds like a sick cow and it restarts itself.

I can't access anything in safe mode to find out what the conflice is and I can't access it with the scanner in, since it won't boot with it in. I can restart in safe mode, remove the scanner drivers then reboot and it's fine, except no scanner.

I diddled(yes, diddled) around with it and changed the setting for the LPT2 port in BIOS from 1.7 to 1.9(or vice versa, can't remember, lol) it only has two choices. Then I did a reboot and presto, the windows booted, the scanner came up, did a test, it was good to go.

Then I installed internet explorer and did a reboot for it and WHAM, the scanner messes up again, the sick moose sound comes back and I have to restart in safe mode and remove the drivers.

Any idea what the heck is going on or how to fix it?

I have a call in to my tech but he wasn't home tonight.
