I just installed Q3a and rebooted as recommended. When rebooting, my system said that there was no secondary master (my cdrom), but my writer was there as secondary slave. Booted into Windows and I couldn't open the cd drawer. Restarted the PC. This time it didn't find either of the cd's. Booted into Windows and now both drives were disabled. Also, the HDD activity light was permanently on but it wasn't doing anything. Turned PC off at back and left it for a couple of mins while I started to get worried. Turned it back on again and now everything is ok. What was it, my only idea is that it could have been the power supply, any ideas, it certainly had me worried.

Was that a burned copy of Quake?

Does sound like it could be either a cable or controller problem.
I would change the cable and hope that it doesn't happen again at this point. If it does, then you will have ruled out the cable as being the culprit.
This may sound to wierd but my pc just did the same thing!!All i did was change my MSdos.sys file to include Logo=0
And BootDelay=0 hmm,,, i went back in and took out the bootdelay=0 and its okay now.
But the hard drive light stayed on,it didnt find secondary master, and it kind of hung for awhile, but its okay now.

Just did it again, my cdrom is also making slow whirring noises almost all the time. Time to take it back me thinks. Makes more noise than the fan in the power supply, even when it is idle (no light). How noisy should the power supply be by the way?
