Ever since I got my Asus P3B-F motherboard I can't run my memory at the fastest settings. If I run my memory at the fastest settings I get random errors and illegal operations in Windows 98, and even 1 time my computer rebooted itself when I exited a game. I have 2 128MB Micron PC100 CAS2 sticks. I paid a premium for these sticks. I never had this problem with the Abit BH6 with this memory and I could let them run faster on that board. Setting the SDRAM wait state to Normal fixes the stability problems on the P3B-F but my memory now runs 8% slower than it did on the BH6 as seen in Wintune 98. Why can't I run my memory as fast as it was on the BH6 with stability? I'm running a P3 700.
Are you sure it isn't a CPU heat issue?? You might try running your system with the case off - if that works perfectly over time, you may want to think about adding fans and heat-sinks to your CPU, hard drives, I/O chipset and blowing over your video card.
I don't really trust benchmark programs myself which is why I'm not zoned in on the RAM itself.
Also, it could be a factor of a different I/O chipset between the two boards or possibly a BIOS issue.
Have you checked the ASUS site for an updated BIOS file for your board? The notes might also indicate any driver changes needed for the high speed intel chip. You might also check the intel site to see if they have any documentation on changes or upgrades needed for the 700mHz -
That's all that comes to mind at the moment.
Otherwise, I'd ALMOST always buy an ASUS before you could GIVE me an ABIT board.

I don't think it's the cpu. I have the retail boxed that came with a fan and heatsink. I don't overclock. There is no to buy a new heatsink and fan with thermal compound. It is around 35 C inside the case. CPU temp is around 53 C.
