I just installed Madden NFL 2000, but I keep getting these illegal operation errors. I get these error when trying to play on either 3dfx or nonaccelerated modes. Any clue?

Do you have a 3Dfx card? That is the executable for it...also there is a patch that may help.. http://www.easports.com/

I am using a voodoo2 12mb pci. I installed the latest patch, but still getting the same results. This time the error messsage read:

Are you running Norton crash guard ? If so turn it off,if not you might try uninstalling the game delete everything and reinstall.

I don't have Norton Crash Guard, i have already patched the game, tried reinstalling numerous times, went to EA and they couldnt help, tried all modes of video, closed all background tasks, and I even went and exchanged the game. This has got to be one of the top three most annoying problems I ever faced. Please help!!

I'll throw a few things out for you...does direct x check out OK?...try the video congiguration in the file from explorer...glide up to date?

One thing I did notice in the DirectX diagnostic is this message in the DX Media Files tab:
"The file iac25_32.ax is a beta version, which is unsupported and could cause problems. You should reinstall DirectX Media to get the latest version."

Could this have significance, even though the demo for Madden 2000 works fine?

p.s. I am having the sme problem with Jagged Alliance 2 now.

In addition to the above, dxdiag also reports the the 3dfxV2.drv is not certified and I have no idea how to get a certified driver.

May be time to re-install directx and also check into reinstalling your video drivers..make sure you get the latest from 3Dfx and change your vid to std vga then reboot and direct setup to the newest..
let me know

Oh..and get rid of the demo and all references to it, now that you have the full version...

all it means when it is "certified" is that MS has tested it...i have yet to use a "certified" driver with the video cards i have had, but i also use reference drivers...

3dfx did not have the drivers for my specific card(evilking voodoo2 12mb). I have been using the voodoo2 reference drivers for directx 7 since they came out with no problem. I tried to reinstall directx, voodoo2, and my 2mb trident drivers numerous times but still same results. Smokin1, what do u mean by "change your vid to std vga then reboot and direct setup to the newest.."?

It is easier to install drivers for your vid card if you 1st change the driver to std vga from control panel...then reboot..then set up the card with the new drivers by directing set up to the location of the updated drivers. You may also want to delete the voodoo in control panel and let windows find it again..try using the manufacturers drivers 1st and see if that helps..

Nope, that didn't do it. I think the problem is directly related to this directx 7 ****.

Way ahead of you, tried that about 3 times.

Well, now I am really stumped. I used the directx uninstaller and put directx 6 back on, but I still can't run the **** game. I hope this doesn't mean reinstall. If I have to reinstall do I need the windows cd, or can I use the cab files?

I really don't think you have to reinstall windows...that is pretty drastic. I see there is a third patch for that game. Try to uninstall directx and let the game cd install its version..

I guess u guys are loss with this one. Well I have learned one thing from this experience, you have a better chance of winning the lottery than getting any tech support from EA!!!
