ctrl-End goes to StandBY

In a document when attempting to jump to the end of the document ctrl-End is used but instead of jumping to the end the system goes to StandBy. Someplace the key combo is set as a shortcut. All the accessability options are removed. The first check after the accessability options were removed showed the key combo to perform correctly - ctrl-End jumped to the end and ctrl-Home jumped to the start. But the second attempt got the StandBy mode again. The system is an E Machine 466I-something-or-another. This is in WordPerfect that the jumps are being attempted.

Any suggestions? All the Power Management options are set to Never.
