I'd like to know what could cause a HD not to start when a IDE CD-ROM is plugged?
Here is my configuration.
HD: Seagate 1 gig (old hd yeah!)
CD-ROM: 2X CD-ROM (Creative Labs) (old cd-rom too)

The problem here is when I only plug my hd, it starts to spin, but as soon as I plug my CD-ROM as primary slave, or secondary master with my hd, nothing starts.
The jumper on the hd is set correctly to (master & slave is present) when I plug my CD-ROM as primary slave, and no jumper when my hd is primary master, with the CD-ROM as secondary master.
I'd like to know what could be the cause of this?
I can't let my computer without a CD-ROM drive, **** installing softwares with diskettes...no way! http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif

OK. I changed my other 24X I had on one of my other computer and it worked perfectly...
So I'll scrap my 2X, and buy a new one.
Thanks for the information!

From what you have said, the hard drive fails to spin up when the CDROM is connected yeh?

A lot of the older cdroms used a proprietary(sp?) interface and did not work on standard IDE interfaces, and usually brought down the entire ide channel - ie all units on that channel failed to spin up. The problem will probably only be resolved by using the proper sound card and interface for the CDROM, or by shelling out for a new CDROM. They aint much anymore, anything above a quad speed should be fine....
