Lately on my system, there has been a large jump in the time it takes to launch outlook express. I have just downloaded the latest version and defragged, no help. I also have a problem that virus scan sceduler will not launch at startup when it is set up to do so.
Any sugggestions?

had the same problem on a customers computer took ages to load outlook express-- it was infected with a virus the w95CIH or something i think try doing a scan with your emergency\rescue floppy(you did make one!)it could also be stopping the virus scanner from loading

Ditto on the slow launch.. HP gave me a number of things to do, none of which worked..Then someone posted to go to ms/dos and delete the temp file,, something like c:\Windows\deltree\temp , WARNING !! Wait till some other members view this suggestion and see if I made a boo-boo on the ms/dos.. DOS is my weakest suite. This changed my Outlook open time from 60sec to about 5. DrVette

If your anti-virus is McAfee, here is something to look at. http://support.microsoft.com/support/kb/articles/Q235/3/00.ASP

Try this fix, it worked for me after I searched for the cure for 6 months!
Go to your Windows update setup folder and extract the following files from the Ie_s4.cab (at least thats where they are on my machine).:
PSBASE.DLL
PSTOREC.DLL
PSTORES.EXE
PSTORERC.DLL
Winzip 7.0 can view and extract from cab files so that's what I use. Once you've extracted these files to a temp. folder you can compare them to the same named ones in your Windows/system folder if you so desire but the objective is to replace them. Boot to dos mode and use the copy command to overwrite the Windows/system/pstor*.* with the extracted ones. Programs that are running while you updated can prevent these files from being properly replaced and thus the buggy OE behavior. (ie. virus scanners)
