Anybody had first hand experience with "truex" cd drives and what's your opinion? Seems all I read is that this technology is prone to a high rate of failure. I was considering purchase.

My first TrueX was the 40x40. I had problems with it. It wouldn't read cd-r's for ****. And at times it wouldn't read regular cd's either. I emailed Kenwood tech support and they had me send it in. They sent me back a 52x52 and it has worked flawlessly. I love it. It's blazing fast. It transfers without the "super warp speed" rotation that a regular 52x cd-rom would have to spin, to get the actual 52x speed at the outer edge of the disc. It does read the same speed across the whole disk. And it is quiet.

Don't personally own one but a friend does... was complaining that 40trueX while ripping audio cds was ~5x. Not sure if its software related.

there are 8 lasers in trueX CD-ROMs, correct?

7 laser beams that read in parallel. They read 7 tacks at once.
