and must have forgotten to click the e-mail feature and I thought you guys had abandoned me cuz I never got any e-mail notification...lol! (and yes, I am female and YES I am blond!)

Okay everyone was right on the money....dunno about the USB I think he has it disabled, I do have the baby motherboard.

Tech told me to switch Com port 2 to auto in the BIOS and i did but before i tried it out i installed my new scanner.

After I hooked up the scanner I hit Del to reset the port in the BIOS then went ahead and installed the scanner, it worked great...then I went on the internet, etc. NEver discovered a problem till i went to upload pics from the camera again and then the scanner and mouse went haywire, AGAIN.

I have it all running now, but am still having to switch the mouse to COM2 then put the camera on com1 then switch it out again when I am done.

I just looked in my Device Manager....hang on to your hats, I am actually going to give you some useable data, lol!

COM1(9pin serial, has mouse on it)
IRQ=04 I/O=03f8-03ff
conflict- IRQ 04 used by COM3

COM2(nothing on it,this is where i put the adapters and hook the mouse up when i put the camera on port1 to upload pics)
IRQ=03 I/0= 02f8-02ff
conflict IRQ 04 is used by COM3

COM3 I don't even know which one this is or what it might have connected to it, lol!)
IRQ=03 I/O=03e8-03ef no conflict

COM4 this is my modem
IR=03 I/O= 02e8-02ef
no conflict

ECP printer port LPT1 DMA=03 IRQ=7 I/O= 0378-037f

Printer port LPT2 (scanner)
I/O=0278-027a

added a parallel port for the scanner.

the camera is a Polaroid PDC640 and I have been really happy with it.

The scanner I bought thru the tech, it's a UMAX 2000P paid $100.00 did i get ripped off or is it a crappy scanner? I have been very happy with it so far and it is just for playing with at home.

Industy standard is :

Com 1 = IRQ 4 mem address 03f8-03ff (usually 9 pin serial port)

Com 2 = IRQ 3 mem address 02f8-02ff (usually another 9 pin serial or 25 pin serial port)

Com 3 = IRQ 4 mem address 03e8-03ef (usually a "virtual" com port used by modems)

Com 4 = IRQ 3 mem address 02es-02ef (usually a "virtual" com port used by modems)

Lpt1 = IRQ 7 DMA 3 Mem address 0378-037f,0778-077a

As you are receiving IRQ conflicts you need to figure out what is using Com port 3. What type of connection are you using for the scanner? What is the make and model of your motherboard? What other devices are installed on your system? Why are you moving the mouse around when you want to connect the camera? Why not use the camera on com2? Does your motherboard offer support for a ps/2 mouse?

Okay, I see that the IRQ's are set right? according to your info...

I don't know why there are conflicts then.

AS far as what is on COM3 how would i find that out? I don't even know which one it is on the back of the computer. I do have a joystick but nobody has touched it in forever and it shows up in Device Manager but not when I look in Joystick in the Control panel, it also doesn't list a port for it, just a resource setting.

Could it be the problem? I can take it off.

The scanner is connected to a parallel port, just installed for it...it is the LPT2.

My motherboard is a piece of **** it is a VA-502 baby board.

I don't know if it has support for a PS/2 mouse or not, but I only have one place to plug in a PS/2 and it is in use by the keyboard.

When I go to the modem in Control Panel and look at the diagnostics tab, it says the mouse is on COM1 no modem on COM2 and 3 and the modem on COM4.

I have to move the mouse because COM2 is a 25 pin serial port and the camera has a nine pin serial cable...I got an adapter for the port but the camera will not work on COM2 it just doesn't connect.

So I have to move the mouse over to COM2 and put the camera on COM1 where it does connect, I have to have the mouse to operate the software for uploading the picks...I can't use the keyboard.

But if I try to leave the mouse on COM2 then the modem doesn't work. It will halfway work, if the mouse freezes, but not all the way.If I shut down, move the mouse back to COM1 then all is fine.

If the IRQ's are all set right then how can I have a conflict?

Well as you see the IRQ's for 1&3 and 2&4 are the same http://www.sysopt.com/forum/frown.gif So what happens is when you have the mouse on Com2 and the modem IS STARTED...BOOM Conflict as the IRQ doesnt know which device to react to! What I would suggest is to kinda hard to walk someone thru (typing that is). I would do is get someone that is proficent in computer dianosics and repair and have them help/show you how to MANUALY configure your devices (manually set the IRQ's ect). This sometimes takes a bit of trial and error but it does usually work out just fine http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif
