I have a simple set-up basically 2 pc's and a laptop hooked up to befsr41 router to cable modem.

The set-up I have now is, main pc has a secondary drive that i store my back up on, the other pc & laptop I burn back ups on dvd (pic's, apps, music) the basics that i dont want to loose.

What im looking for is a simple back up system, such as a usb external drive that i could plug into the three (one at a time) and save the back up to, but looking at some at the local retail store no one can seem to answer if thats possible.

buget for this would be around 100-150$

Any Suggestions Would Be Greatly Appreciated

I use USB hdds for that.

A folder for each PC with the stuff I back up, I use copy/paste, from said computer in the appropriate folder. Just my way. But i do use 3 USB hdds with one offsite at all times though.

You should be able to find a 500G for around $100. Seagate or Western Digital would be ok.

I thought he was talking about 2.5" externals since one of the systems is a laptop.

Thanks for all the input all. Yes I do have a laptop, just wanted something simple that i could store back ups on from multiple pc's and the laptop. All three systems use different os's. (xp pro 32 bit, vista ult. 64 bit and win7 ult. 64bit) So portable or not would be fine. The laptop could just be placed next to the drive and perform the back up.

On my 1.5 TB freeagent, I made a folder and placed all components of the seagate backup program in it. Just to get it out of the way.

Normal hard drive in a inclosure that uses USB, so it acts just like when you plug in a usb thumbdrive ;)

plug it from system to system different folder for each device.

Just remember to do regular scans on it like you would a normal 24/7 connected hard drive. ;)
