Hi ALL--Installed Maxtor UDMA66 27.2 gig HDD this weekend. Smooth installation, fdisk and formatted as ONE Drive, no partitions just as "F".
Now when I cold boot it takes two or three or more restarts before the ATX switch "catches" my monitor and the boot goes on with no issues.

Sometimes, it shuts off by itself.

Today, I got two PC beeps during the first boot before it cut off, I read somewhere here that the beeps are a code...??

Running P3-500, no overclocking, 256RAM, W98.
I have three ide's and a CDROM on my "normal" IDE controllers.

Running Abit BE6 mobo and this HDD is the only one on the UDMA66 side.

My BIOS was just flashed a few weeks ago and the UDMA66 control panel says I'm running in mode 4.

Little help please? Any Idears?

TL, I have a slave and master on my first IDE controller, and a second master with slaved CDROM on the second.
This newest HDD is the master on the UDMA66 controller.

So I have 3 HDD's a CDROM and a FOURTH HDD which is now part of the UDMA66 controller system.

My BE6 motherboard can handle a total of EIGHT drives.

I hope this helps...

Gmarsh, Move whatever PCI card you have in the 3rd pci slot to a different location as the IRQ for the 3rd slot and ATA66 controller are the same. You might want to check your PS to see if it's up[ to snuff as a power flucuation problem will cause ALL KINDS of problems.

Do you have the ATA66 Controller device drivers installed properly? I had a lot of trouble getting the Highpoint device drivers for my Maxtor 27 gig ATA66 drive installed correctly. The process is complex.

Not sure I understand your question. Is this a second physical hard drive as you've labeled it "F"? What's the hard drive got to do with the ATX switch? If this is a 2nd HD, it shouldn't have much impact on the boot process. Was it working before?

gmarsh1: I agree that you might need more juice regarding your power supply, this could be the problem. Do me a favor and label the EIDE devices you have installed. It sound like your UDMA66 HD is not configured as your boot drive C, rather you set this up as F? Essentially, it sounds like you are booting from the normal EIDE controller then attempting to bring up your ATA66 controller. This board may not have been designed to work this way. What are your boot up settings in the BIOS? You may have better luck configuring your ATA66 HD as C, then configuring the rest after that. Anyway, just some thoughts to ponder. I'm using a BE6 with UDMA66 HD connected to the ATA66 controllers (primary & secondary master) with CDROM as secondary master on a normal EIDE controller and I haven't had any hiccups. It's been stable for probably 4 months or so.
