on NTFS, it's the size of your hard drive -

on FAT32, it should be in the specs for win98.

Going along with the questions on NTFS, how big are the sectors(?) on an NTFS file system? I know for FAT32 they were something like 4KB for my 7.5 GB partition.... how does the size compare for an NTFS partition?

Here's a link to Microsoft's page regarding FAT32: http://www.microsoft.com/Windows98/guide/Win98/Features/Fat32.asp . According to the page, the limit is over 2 terabytes (2,000 GB) for FAT32 partitions!

With nt4 you are limited to 4 gb partitions under ntfs until you install service pack 3.

bdog...not exactly true...You can install to a drive and expand the partition during NTFS conversion to 7.8G with standard translation int13h controllers (IDE). You can go larger if the drive is on an extended translation controller, such as some SCSI controllers.

I can post the whole technet article if you want, but the point is, NT lets you do it with the NT4 installation CD, of which SP 1 is the most current NT4 installation CD.

NTFS is otherwise capable of some 2 terrabytes partition size. (as the non-boot partition)

And...last but not least..Of course, Win2000 limits a FAT32 partition to 32G.
