Put an SSD in my wife's laptop (Dell inspiron 501) as a little upgrade for her. I really like the speed that apps like IE8 InPrivate (she likes to use it) opens almost instantly; even control panel opens in a second or so. Time will tell how long this drive will last. Very worthwhile upgrade. Of course I have things like hibernation, superfetch, indexing, page file etc. turned off and disabled. :t

Make sure to tell her NOT to defrag either.

Make that an inspiron 1501. She doesn't do anything other than use IE; so it will never be defragged. I'm getting really close to getting one of these SSD's for myself. :t

Wear it out faster.

Disable Vista/Win7 defrag at startup:
http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/157352-defragment-boot-files-enable-disable.html

Disable weekly scheduled defrag in Vista/Win7:
http://vistasupport.mvps.org/disable_disk_defragmenter_schedule.htm

And maybe these articles will help out.

I wish they wouldn't say that these drives will last 1,500,000 hours. Really misleading. I'm figuring 3-5 years of use (hopefully). :t

Guess it was like a DVD.. they said it would last a 100 years or more. How do they know that for sure? DVD's haven't been around that long.

Go figure.... :x
