If the light is on nonstop, it is a sign that the floppy drive cable is on backwards, either at the drive end or at the motherboard end.
Check that both times pin 1 lines up with the red wire.

That's what I think and I will try that, but the cable is keyed. I think I will put the old cable on it. Thanks.....

I have just built a new Athlon based on the MSI MS-6167. The insides are:
128mb PC133
Voodoo 2000 AGP
Adaptec 2490
NEC SCSI CD
DEC RZ26L 1g
DEC RZ28 (2) 2g ea.
NEC generic 2.88 Floppy
LS120
SoundBlaster 32 AWE
CTX 1765GM
The problem(s)is/are that the floppy is not accessible. The drive light comes on at boot and stays on. The BIOS does see the drive, but it won't work. It is connected to the MB properly,
The LS120 is bootable but the system does not see it as a drive.
All except the video card and the LS120 came from my previous home-built P166.
I've fiddled with device manager and assigned a drive letter to the LS120 but it still won't show as a drive in the system.
The floppy shows as A:, but the system will not let me access it.
Also, I get a lot of flicker at boot, then the system settles down and works fine.
Other than this, the system is working perfectly. Thanks for any ideas!

Similar problem here, can anyone help?
I have an LS-120 in my computer. It is hooked up to my CDROM as slave, and in the BIOS it is set to "auto detect". There is no standard floppy in my computer, the LS-120 is there instead. So my A is the LS-120, C is the hard drive, and D is the CD
Recently I noticed something...
I am not sure exactly when this developed... possibly around the time I upgraded to W98se, but here is what happened(s):
If I turn my computer off (no power), then turn it on (like it was just being started for the day or something), my BIOS and windows would see my LS-120 just fine. It works fine, too.
But, if I restart my system without turning the power off (like from the shutdown menu or CTRL+ALT+DEL), the BIOS doesn't detect my LS-120, and if I click My Computer, there is a long pause (because it is looking for a drive that isn't there), and finally it opens up and shows "Removable Disk A:\" (clicking on this causes big pauses/freezes)instead of the normal "3 1/2 Floppy A:" I cannot read from the drive as it is not even regognized by the BIOS as even installed.
I've reseated the cables, that didn't do anything. Is this my LS-120 going bad or is this some Windows error? Please help.
Thanks
There should be an LS 120 option in the bios setup menu for boot sequence.

To Paul V
After I cheched pin 1 on the mb and the drive, I found that the key on the floppy could be incorrect. If I used the keyed cable, pin 1 from the mb = pin 40 on the floppy, so I used the old non-keyed cable which worked fine. Thankyouverymuch! Now to get the LS120 to be assigned a letter.....
