I have recovery console set as a boot option, when I try and launch recovery console I get this error "windows root system32 hal.dll corrupt or missing"
If I boot from my Windows CD it never gets to the "Welcome to Setup" screen to pick recovery option.
Is there a way repair the system32 hal.dll error other than the Recovery Console?

I think SP2 or maybe SP3 killed the recovery console....

That sucks.
Can I replace my system32\hal.dll file with one from my install CD?

NO!
But a repair install will fix it.

What's up with that?

Sounds like the hdd and not the cdrom is first in the boot order. Need to switch that.

No, I can boot to the CD but I don't get the option for the Recovery Console, the only option I get is to use ASR disk. Then it proceeds to load another version of Windows.

You press F2 during Windows Setup to activate an ASR floppy disk . I think you should double check what CD your using.
