THE UNINSTALL!!!!!

Nathan:
I don't know what happened. 2nd edition overwrote my auto.exe.bat, crashed my IPS hook up, changed my settings in the power mngmt, but the last straw was that it would not wake up from sleep mode and who know what else. However, after the uninstall,
my computer seems to be more stable after a
system optimization( no pun intended) by Norton utilities. Even my printer seems faster! I has to format my Hdd awhile back so
i'm trying to cautious as to what I load in the computer, never thuoght Win upgrade would be a mess. That's life!??

Considering that I just uninstalled W98 beta ....hehehe

But I hear tell that the proxy setup is pretty good on W98SE

I would have like it myself so I would be able to network the ISP but It really messed up my computer. My boss said it was because I have an AMD chip not Intel and i think he's right.

I guess I'm not understanding something here. I've installed 98 on over 100 computers with very little problems with it. That's first and second editions. And it's much much better than 95 ever thought of being. And without patches or updates too.

I have never had a problem with a fresh install of W98 - but last Sunday I tried the install over an existing W95 and all heck went wrong, except the uninstall, thanks goodness that worked! whew!

But then with all the patches near at hand -I have them burned onto CD - my W95B &C work just fine..

Funny, I have installed W98 for others but do not use it as my primary OS.

No doubt W98 is better than W95 - but the old addage is "...if it works....don't fix it"

Hi Cmonster!

Almost all my installs are on freshly formatted drives too. I think users really have a problem with the fear of the unknown. Meaning not doing or being able to backup their files, downloads, etc. Then reinstalling the patches (95) in the right order and answering the questions that can come up when installing the OS. And quite frankly unless you do it quite often, it can be a little scary sometimes especially when an error message comes up. But on the other hand, what are they going to do when the hard drive crashes? And their data is not backed up?

With the advent of Zip drives and tape backups, they help out greatly. The problem with Zips are some BIOS don't like them and they won't work. Then with tape backups, not all the info can be restored completely.

The only time I long for 6.X is for backing up to a tape drive. Yes, how easy it was to restore your hard drive back then. Just get it the way you like it and run a couple of tapes to it. Then when it crashes, restore it in maybe an hour or so and your off again. Oh well... Of course some have networks now so they can copy their data safely over to it too.
