I have a Linksys WUSB600N router & a Comcast cable modem. Both are capable of 1Gig on the Ethernet ports. The modem has an indicator for the link being 1 Gig or 10/100, the router does not. After a while the modem will show 10/100 and it's hard to get it back to 1Gig. Sometime a cable swap, sometimes power cycle, sometimes it just won't change, but it never comes back on it's own This tells me that one device is having issues with auto negotiation, but I have no idea which one. When I look into both of them from a browser, I see nothing covering Ethernet port speed. I'd like to be able to set both sides to 1Gig, but doubt if that can be done.
Has anyone else ever run across thsi & found a way to determine what is going on, or correct it?
Thanks

Have you checked your nic's speeds?

The NIC is not involved here. This is the cable connection between the Linksys router's WAN port and the ethernet port on the Comcast modem.

Try a new cat5 or maybe a cat6 inbetween then.
Wondering about cross feed.

Done that already, changed cables, then went from CAT5 to CAT6, and went with a 2 footer to make sure length wasn't an issue. Was fine for a week or so then back to 10/100. Now here is the joke of it all. I just got home from bowling & the modem says it's now at 1Gig! It never went back to this on it's own before. But, I bet that if I wait, within 2 weeks it will be back at 10/100.
Really goofy.
Whoops, just noticed a typo, the router is a WRT320N

Is your internet service faster than 100 Mb/s?

No it isn't, but I think I know where you are headed, I have this conversation with a guy at work all the time. He asks me why I am concerned when the best I get is in the 40-60 Meg range. I see this as an indication that one piece of equipment is not functioning right and would like to correct it. Since both use auto negotiation this points to one of them not handling it well & I'd like to know which one & correct it. Unfortunately, it seems there is no way to get to a configuration where one side can be locked at 1Gig for test purposes.

OK, I get it. Have you tried a firmware update on the router?

When I got home late last night I saw there was an upgrade, but it was too late to do it. I read the list of issues it resolved and it was mostly security things, but again, you just never know. I will try that, maybe tonight. I just have to go over the instructions.
Thanks again.
