I have an OEM Win98SE CD-ROM.

Can I install Win98Lite from it?

Is Win98Lite essentially Win98SE without IE and outlook?

i cannot remember where to get it bu the lite version is basically like this: think of a stripped down car. no power locks and windows, no ac, no radio, no leather seats, no bumpers, just enought to run the car. that is what win98lite is....

98lite has evolved, since mabe the last time you had seen\tried it.

A better analogy is:
It removes the trailer from that Corvette you are driving.

I've been using it since it was first called IERemover. I currently have version 98lite20pro. ( version 3 is in the works )

98lite is an INSTALLER. It basically replaces Windows setup, FOR AWILE, during the install process.

It modifies setup files, depending on the type of install\components you want or don't want. It can make some Standard Windows components, OPTIONAL. It can de-integrate IExplorer from the OS.
essentailly, you get to pick & choose what you want.
Don't like ActiveX ? Don't install it
Don't like IE4, but like Outlook ? you can have it that way too.
Like the speed of Win95 shell but want the Win98 OS? You can have that too

What you are really getting is a speed\stability increase.

It's my understanding that 98lite version 3.0 will allow you to have darn near EVERYTHING in windows as optional !

This from 98lite news
"More on version 3 ....getting closer....you can now switch to a micro configuration without needing to reinstall windows! and if thats not enough here's the killer - if you don't like it you can uninstall 98lite and revert back to the original windows configuration complete with Internet Explorer and the webified desktop all without needing to reinstall the OS. This include the the micro configuration - so now you can have a fully featured windows environment if you prefer it that way - then reconfigure to a micro environment for that week long Quake-fest when you want the extra horsepower - and then restore your system back to the full configuration afterwards! (a better system would be a dual boot but this illustrates what v3 is capable of). Expect to see more add/remove modules too. 98lite v3 is the ultimate in windows "modularity"

good luck

As I said I had it and did not like it JMO! Version three looks better than version 2 was, I had version 2.
No worry now as I have not been in 98 for a couple days, soon to be gone! Windows 2000 is awesome.

This program is not for everyone I wish people would warn them about what they are getting into before recommending this program. AS I said I did not like it and will never recommend useing it. Again JMO!

I understand. And you are right.
Reading about what 98lite does and...
after installing,
then seeing what it does or doesnt does are two different things.

Keep us posted about your use of Win2000.
i think i am going to wait awhile because of this article:

I di not like it as it took away too many features in windows 98 that I liked and used.
