Hi all,
I've USB2.0 TO SATA/IDE HDD. This is same as the one in the link below
http://www.amazon.com/Sabrent-ECS-ST.../dp/B00095OAQG
It was working perfectly fine with my IBM laptop (Windows Vista), now I bought a new Sony laptop (Windows Vista) and it doesn't seem to work.
I had 3 differnt partitions on this harddisk but since I plugged it into my new laptop, it didn't show any partition, so through Disk Management utility I was able to assign it a letter (different then any other drive on my system). Now it shows the 'Drive X' in my computer with the maximum space it had (150 GB). But it does not allow me to explore the contents of the Drive, whenever I click on the drive it asks me format the drive.
Now, even if I try to plug it into my old IBM laptop it shows 'drive X' and doesn't let me explore its contents and keep asking me to format it once I click on it.
I already tried to disable all of the USB ports on my new system but it didn't work. Any ideas? I've very important data on the drive that I don't want to lose.

What is the make/model of the drive in the enclosure? Did you try removing the drive and connecting it directly to a desktop system? Since you only mentioned laptops, you may need to get some help from a friend who has a desktop.

Data on your external should be a BACKUP of what is on your laptop. It should NOT be the only copy.

Sounds like you hosed up the partition table on the external drive.
I would kiss your data goodbye unless you find someone with data recovery software that could spend a few hours to attempt to recover the raw data for you but you are looking at BIG $$$ for a recovery ($500-$1500+ is common).
I use a BartPE CD with the full retail version of GetDataBack software for data recovery.

It is SATA & IDE 3.5" HARD DRIVE TO USB 2.0. Mfgr. part number is ECS-STU35K. I don't have access to the desktop, I use laptop and it was working fine with IBM for almost a year, then when I tried to connect it with SONY, it seems to get rebellion. I will try to connect it with my friend's desktop tomorrow, and let you know about the results.

Actually its not backup, I had to move all of my data from my old desktop to the harddrive for some reason.

I asked about the make/model of the hard drive, not the enclosure.
Remove the drive from the enclosure and try connecting it directly to the desktop motherboard. You might have a bad enclosure (if you're lucky). You might be able to restore the partitions with Testdisk (part of UBCD, link is in my signature).
it was working fine with IBM for almost a year
So you had almost a year to make a copy. Oh well.
