I am trying to upgrade my current rig. I need to get a graphics card (it currently has an on-board graphics card) but i am sparse on cash. My goal is have an XFX Radeon HD 4870 1GB 256-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready CrossFire Supported Video Card, but the power supply unit is only 300 watts. The case is a micro atx so it might be a bit fickle on another psu. Can the card run off the current psu or do i need to get a more powerfull one? If so what would be a good recommendation?

You should really get a better PSU. With something that small, your system will probably shutdown or reboot spontaneously.

Do you mean a microATX PSU or just the case?

the tower is a mATX but it is only classifed that by the mb (can only take a micro board) i checked it out and it fits a normal size psu. Now i just i just need about $300 and fit the card in.

Where are you shopping? Newegg, ZipZoomFly, etc? A local shop?

the tower is classified as a matx because of the board but the power supply is normal and can handle a full psu box

What CPU do you have now? The 4870 is a beefy card, so you'll need a good CPU to go with it.
Otherwise, you'll end up bottlenecking the card.
