I bought a new laptop with NT installed, hoping to set up a dual boot with Partion Magic for MCSE traing. However, Tech Support says that PNP, power management, and com 2 had to be disabled (in bios I think) in order to install NT.

So even if I did boot to a second primary partion using Partition Magic they would still be disabled. Would I still be able to set everything up. They sents driver disks for the LCD, touchpad, audio, and the NIC so I assume I will need to install all these for W98 if PNP was disabled.

Would I have to mess with IRQ's etc.

Or would it just be easier to use the new laptop with W98 and install NT on my old clunker laptop for training.

TIA. This is the best help forum out there IMO.

? I dont remember having to disable anything when I installed NT. Where did it tell you to do that?

Vampiel:

Tech support at Sager told me that NT required that PNP, APM, and com 2 must be disabled to install on a laptop. I may have misunderstood them.

Anyway. I was already under the impression that since NT doesnt have all the PNP capabilities like 98, that installing drivers for HW, especially PCMCIA cards, was really difficult.

If dual booting is as easy on a Laptop as on a desktop, please let me know.

In theory, it shouldn't be any prob, but I'd back up the important stuff.

I do not understand. Although I have never had much of anything to do with laptops, NT IS PNP compadible even though not as much as win98 and when I installed it I had PNP enabled. This is what I would do, install NT and 98 normally w/o disabling anything. Then use the dual boot, if it works gr8, if not erase one of them = ).
