Can I connect DMA 66 disk to board without this controler ?

Is it possibile to conect this disk to ussual controler on board and will it be slower than regular DMA 33 disk ?

sure you can, but it will run at 33 i think. i have a 66 drive but i do not have a controller although my motherboard supports 66....it is fine with me.....

As I understand it, ata66 drives default to ata33 unless the proper cable & drivers are used to enable ata66.

My Maxtor 7200rpm came with its own cable, my mobo is ata66 ready. On post, it shows ata-4 which is reputed to be ata-66.. On Maxtor drives, only the plus series are 7200 rpm, I think that is correct.. DrVette

Yes you can. I have mine hooked up temporarily on the ATA33 instead of ATA66 right now. The drive just defaults to 33.
