Hi hope you can help me out with this guys..
I have 2 harddrives in my system, one which is c: which is the boot drive and another one, d:. The problem is that a few days ago the system suddenly wouldnt boot from c:, so i had to change the boot drive to d: (which makes d: c: ). I thought the other drive had crashed because there were a lot of crosslinked files and stuff on it, but after i ran NDD and repartitioned/reformated it it runs flawlessly.. The Problem is IT WONT BOOT.... I have to boot from it to get my original configuration back (so i wont have to reinstall everything), but it simply hangs at startup saying "Press any key to reboot" if i set it as boot-drive.. Tried Fdisk /MBR, but no result. Of course i dont know if it wrote the right drive?! Well.. Anyone have any experience with this and know what to do?

I assume you're using win9x. The drive you boot from must be the master on primary IDE channel. Will boot as drive c:.

Fdisk --> delete primary partition
Fdisk --> create new partition
Format c:

Have you checked the jumpers on the drive? Is it possible you have simply left them in the slave position?

Try booting from a floppy and typing {sys c:}
without the brackets.

I have win9x but i dont have the harddrive as primary master to boot from it. I can select that in my BIOS (thats the way I had it before). Anyway, it doesnt work if i set it to primary master..

And, I already tried sys-ing it, but it doesnt do any good. More suggestions?

Motta: Tried that, no result http://www.sysopt.com/forum/frown.gif

Underclocked: I havent changed any jumpers until i tried one of the suggestions above. The harddisk suddenly wouldnt boot without changing any settings, either in BIOS nor hardware. But as a safety I checked and they are correct http://www.sysopt.com/forum/frown.gif

Have you tried the C drive by itself? Disconnect the ribbon cable to the other drive and check the jumpers one more time.

At this point all that occurs to me is going to the hard drive manufacturer's site and getting a diagnostic to check it with only that drive and the floppy connected.

Let us know if you find it!

I got it to boot! But only as PIO 3!!!!! Why is this?? /me is a big questionmark. I had it at PIO 4 before, and its a PIO 4 disk (IBM Deskstar). Very strange indeed..
