Don't know what happened, but for the last couple weeks whenever I open Excel I get a window saying it's preparing to install Excel. It goes through all the motions, then loads, but the next day it is the same thing. The only things I can recall that changed was uninstalling AVG and going to McAfee and running a couple of spyware programs.

It's Excel 2003 if that makes any difference.

That sounds like a botched installation. You may have to use the Windows Installer Cleanup Utility.
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/290301 "If you use this utility, you may have to reinstall other programs. Caution is advised."
Before doing that you should download and install the latest Windows Installer.
Windows Installer 4.5 http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=5a58b56f-60b6-4412-95b9-54d056d6f9f4&displaylang=en
Then you could try the Microsoft Office Application Recovery tool. In 2003 it is usually found at Microsoft Office > Microsoft Office Tools on the Start Menu.

I loaded the new Windows Installer, Opened Excel and ran the recovery tool. Excel now opens up like it should. I turned teh PC off & on to to insure it still works OK & it looks fine now.

Thanks
