I going to install an HP Scanjet SP SCSI scanner in a P3450 Presario w/win98 and I need a few tips. I've got the scsi card ready to go in a PCI slot, but is it plug and play? This is the only SCSI device in the PC. What is the install procedure? No instructions available. Thanks!

I had some trouble w/ my UMAX scanner installing the SCSI card. It is supposed to be plug and play but when I installed WIN98 didn't see or detect the card the first few times.
I suggest you install the SCSI card, plug in the scanner (be sure to use the terminator), turn the scanner on (important), then start win98.
Good luck.

Go to www.hp.com (http://www.hp.com) search for the "IRQ-less" scanner driver for SCSI card no.20403. This driver may work for other cards as well. If HP no longer offers the driver, e-me and I'll send it to you. (fits on a floppy). All this drivel may not be a item of need for you. I had a prob getting my HP 5pse scanner to load right, so once I did it the totally WRONG way by adding the card and the scanner, turned it on, then re-booted.. Win98 found it and loaded drivers without problem. This is NOT the way HP suggests. Do it their way first, make sure to disable all TSR's first though.. get back if it don't work cause you got one HOT scanner there.. DrVette

Stick it in, plug up the scanner, turn it on and fire it up. Win98 will find it on boot and ask for drivers. If you add them at this time the tsr's will not be an issue.. Remember on scsi devices to turn them on BEFORE booting the computer... Take me to your leader.

The card should be plug and play, but its not guarenteed, if its SCSI, you should be OK, if it dooesn't work try loading the scanner software.
