This is the hardware I have .. MS-6167 board, AMD Athlon 550 MHz CPU, 128 mb PC-100 SDRAM, Maxtor 12 gb hdd, Creative 24X CD-Rom, standard floppy, 300 WATT P/S, Video-107 AGP 3D X2 video card w/8 MB, Award BIOS.

This is a new system, I do not have an OS installed (can't get that far), I boot the system .. get the BIOS info, Memory check, Drive detection (it recognizes the primary Hard Drive .. and the secondary primary
CD-Rom drive ... then the floppy drive cranks 2 times and that's where it stops ..
the floppy drive light does not come on. I have checked, reversed and reversed again, the floppy cable .. to no avail. I disconnected the floppy drive .. placed the Win98 CD in the CD-Rom drive .. changed the settings to boot from CD-Rom .. but still nada! It just stops and all I have on the monitor is a blinking "-" .. and that's where I am at this point.

Am I missing a setting in BIOS setup? I really don't get this. I have some experience with hardware but this is beyond me!

Last time I had this problem with the BIOS it wasn't recognizing whatever drive it was looking for - is the BIOS showing the A drive, and/or have you set it to the right format?

Run setup and check. And again make sure your cable is connected correctly, if it isn't the BIOS won't see it.

does your bios have a "default" setting?? if so try resetting to it,& when you exit bios use the "save&exit"option you might also try not using auto detect on drives and manualy fill in info
