Windows 98 drivers

I installed AT&T cable modem service. After installing I got messages that the system couldn't find vnetsup.vxd, vredir.vxd, and dfs.vxd and booting through to the desktop usually took 2-3 tries. The system also looks for msnp32.dll before going to the desktop. I Nortoned the system so I don't get the messages, but bootup is still not reliable. Some types of sound files don't play either (music seems to play OK, but other sounds are hit or miss).
What programs or functions are the drivers related to and can I restore them with the setup CD? Is this related to the sound problem?

They should all be in c:\windows\system - if they're not there, System File Checker should be able to get them from the win98 cd.

ahhhhhh... i just went through this little dance myself...the vxd files install when you install the drivers for your nic, i got the same thing you did when my drivers did not install correctly. try uninstalling all modem and nic devices comepletly from your system ( with me it got so bad that i had to to do a clean reinstall of windows), and then reinstall them again. I have the onboard everything variety of devices, so i did not do the add new hardware way of installing them...i just went to the cd and clicked on setup.exe in the correct directory. you may not have the same option, but i would definitely try to uninstall and then reinstall your nic and modem....

I do installs for AT&T.
The AT&T tech should have rebooted when he was all done, and caught/fixed this problem.

I don't know where you're at, but here in my neck of the woods they require us to do so, just to prevent trouble calls.

And before all of you decide to email me to death about AT&T and how the modem or nic doesn't work, forget it.
