A while ago I bought 64mb sdram pci100.
I smacked it in the slot and restarted my computer. To my suprise my bios read in 80mb
(I already have 64mb)64+64 should be 128 and not 80. What the heck is going on?
There are some details you should know, I guess, to give me a hopefully correct guide on what to do;
Motherboard DTKPAM0052V
CPU AMD K6-2 350mhz
VIA VT82C598MVP system chip
64mb sdram (uncertain if it´s 66 or 100mhz)
Diamond Viper 550 Viper Graphics card
Sounblaster 128PCI
You also should that I´m running my computer underclocked, due to the fact that Diamond states that Viper 550 must run at 66mhz busspeed (is that really true?), I have my jumpersettings at 75 mhz x 4.5 (the card hasn't complained yet)
Can someone ge me a clue?
Thanks in advance!
In your Bios there should be an option to choose OS2 or non-OS2 for dram. Set that to non-OS2 if it isn't already.
I thought that it would just stop at 64 mb if that is set to os2 and you aren't running os2 warp, but ya never know.

I've had the same thing happen with different brands of memory. Try swapping the dimms from one slot to the other. That's worked for me on several occasions. If you've got PC100 memory it will run at 100mhz. Does your vid card fit in the AGP slot??...if so your documentation is referring to the speed of the AGP buss and not the FSB.

Thanks for the tip on the AGP Bus. I changed my jumper settings and are now running in 350mhz. 100mhz X 3.5.
My sdram doesn´t work as it should yet. I noticed that they seam to be different. One pair is a bit smaller than the other. I have tried to have one at a time, and they both read 64mb. These guys doesn´t seam to match.
By the way I also forgot to mention that I also have 2 harddisks and 1 cd-rom plus a cd-burner (HP 7200i)
They are configured as;
HD 1 = primary master
CD-Rom = primary slave
CD-Burner = secondary master
HD 2 = secondary slave
I wonder if that can have an impact?
I myself also wonder if the two 64mb modules just don´t fit together.

Nope, you're HDD's, CDROM's, etc. should'nt have any bearing on your memory count. If you can, try some different memory.

Yes, M1Pilot, I´ll guess you´re right.
I´ve decided to buy another pci100 sdram.
Thanks for all the help!
Have you tried the patch for that AMD 350?
It does make a difference in some issues,not sure if it has any affect on your memory though.I had this problem with some sdram and it turned out one was just bad.

i had a problem with a Dell computer at work
had a stick of 128 megs in...but sometimes it would boot and say 64 megs...turned out to be a bad memory slot
switched the ram to the second slot and never had a problem yet...

That patch for the 350 does'nt have any bearing on how the ram is counted up at post. Also the patch won't work on Win95a...only 95b and I think 95c...I'm not sure if it's required for 95c. It is not required for Win98.
