Tape ????!?!?!?!?!!????!?!!!

Sure it isn't solidified thermal paste??

If it is put on too thick, it sometimes becomes solid and looks like a white piece of tape.....

If it is tape, it would virtually eliminate the usefulness of the heat sink.

I'd have the processor tested for damage if you've used it at all before applying thermal paste - The tape may have caused heat damage on the chip.

Thermal paste requires only a very thin film to ensure good contact and heat conductivity.

Thermal paste has only been known to "hurt" when applied in copious amounts. - When applied thick, it can trap a hot air bubble and do damage that way.

I'd LOVE to hear what that "tape" is.....

There was a 1X1 Adhesive tab on the processor, on the side where the heat sink sits! I peeled the backing off and stuck on the heatsink!

Thanks for the help!

I ripped off the tape and put paste on it instead, the CPU is noticeably cooler. I also added two extra system fans.

Thanks!

OH yea that tape, was just double sidded tape on the cpu, so the heatsink and the cpu would be stuck together. Weird huh?

That double sided tape is a great insulator - translation - a real idiot had to come up with the idea of putting a heat sink on a processor with it......

UN-BE-Lievable!!!!! -

You just increased the performance of your processor.
