Hi there:
This is my first day learning photoshop 5.
I created an image and wd like to cut a circle out of it using marquees.
I did according to what the book says:
click marquees, highlight an area on the image to creat a circle, while the moving ants are on press CTRL and using the cursor drag the circle.
I did all this but a msg pops up telling me
{could not move the selection because the selected area is empty.}
Any advise wd be highly appreciated.

on useing different tools they create different layers (left middle of screen)
change to layer that you want to edit otherewise the space will be empty.
