I just bought a kenwood 72X cd rom drive. I have a 400mhz p2 with an ABIT BX6 rev2 main board, a diamond viper 770 ultra, and a sblive xgamer. With Win98 os. What happens is that it locks up games and if i install something it seems like it misses some of the data and then it acts even crazier. I put my old memorex cd-402e as a slave to the kenwood after I had these problems and everything runs fine of that cd-rom. Any info you guys can give me would be greatly appriciated.
Thanks

I saw your post about your problems with your mitsumi burner acting up on another thread, do you have the cdr as the slave to the kenwood? The way I have mine setup is the ibm hdd is primary master, the zip is secondary master, my asus 50x is the primary slave and my mitsumi cdr(same as yours)is the secondary slave. I guess it could be you got a bad cdrom drive, i've gotten a few of those but kenwood's are supposed to be good. 72x WOW thats flying I don't see how it wouldn't miss data at that speed http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif

It's on a different machine. But thanks for the help. It cost a pretty penny and I don't wanna take it back, I don't know what I'm gonna do yet.
thanks

Take it back and replace it. it may be a faulty. I have the 52X and it works great.
