Well Ive backed up all my games and programs since I lost my C&C Red Alert disc. Today when i bought AOE2 and tryed to back it up, my CD writing program says i cant because it cant read or copy or something (I used the option where you copy the CD to the harddrive and then copy it from there since I only have a lone CD drive). Well after trying everything, I go to the legal stuff...the EULA.txt. I read it and it says I may make one back up for myself...But I cant! Is this thier way of screwin me over?
I just hadda let off some steam cuz this aint right. anyone with me on this point?

Hmmm...I know what you're talking about but can't give you a resonable explanation. Do you have a CD-RW (rewritable) drive or a CD-R (recordable) drive? If you have an -RW drive just buy some of those cds and do the same thing but you won't have to use any software to do so. With CD-R disks you'd have to.

Whatcha talkin about? You still have to use software to burn into a CD-RW. I think that MS used some hidden files or something taht wont even show when you have show all files on because im missing about 19.5 MBs off the backup if i try to back up from a manual copy to harddrive. The backup I made installs ok, but doesnt recognize the CD as the AOE2 disc...
Oh well guess im stuck using the original..but they really shouldnt put it in the EULA if they dont mean it!

AE,

Which software are you using to burn with? I have not yet found a CD that I can not copy. I have Nero4.5.6, Adaptec's EZ cd creator and CD Copier 3.5c(8-13-99) and CDRWin and have used mainly Adaptec's software to do CD to CD copying. But even better when I run into hard to copy (because of "copyright protection" but again only if allowed by the EULA /forum/wink.gif) I use my Plextor setup (8x20 burner with 40x cd) as it does "BIT by BIT" rather than "packet by packet".

BTW what exactly is AOE2 ?

The back-up instructions to this particular game can be found at www.gamecopyworld.com (http://www.gamecopyworld.com)

You will have to make a image to the hard drive first then patch the .exe file THEN back it up to a CD-R. The resulting backup copy will still be protected with a 'no CD inserted' protection scheme. Do a full install from the CD-R then apply the downloadable "Crack" from the above mentioned site.

REMEMBER
"GameCopyWorld ONLY supplies Information and Tools to enable you to make a PERSONAL BACKUP of your original Game/CD."

"Keep the following in mind when making a backup of an Original Game":

"You are LEGALLY ALLOWED to make a personal backup of an Original Game/CD as long as you are the owner of the Original Game/CD.
You are NOT ALLOWED to sell, rent or give away any backups of copyrighted Games/CDs as this is not allowed by Copyright Laws.
You MUST DESTROY any backups when you don't own the Original Game/CD anymore (e.g. selling or giving it away)
Before making a backup check, in the supplied manual or on the back of the CD, if there are special conditions for making a backup."

I am using Sony's CD-right program that came with it I also used the Virtual CD thing from nortons so i wouldnt have to usethe cd, but that didnt work (in fact it corrupted the program and i had to reinstalled it..this happned twice).
AOE 2 is Age of Empires 2, a game made my the infamous Microsoft. Ill check out your links BEdge.
Thanks guys for the heads up.

Yep. www.gamecopyworld.com/ (http://www.gamecopyworld.com/) is a big help in find out the "hard" pmes to backup. Unfortunatly with all the software priracy that goes on it makes it harder and harder for those of us that follow the rules.
