Okay, I actually already asked for help with this under OS category. I guess I'll try here too.
My major problem is I cannot access my CD-ROM under Windows 98SE unless I reboot in MS-DOS. Thats not the only problem though. When I go into Control Panel>System>Performance>File System all my hdd's arunning under MS-DOS Compatability Mode. Also under the Performance Tab I have listed File System-Graphics-and thats it!!!!! It has no Virtual Memory tab(No nothing is disabled under Performance>Troubleshooting).
What happened is some one who should'nt have been messing with the Control Panel went into the System Menu and screwed with the HDD's controller. My parent controller is the Intel 82371 AB/EB PCI Bus Mastering IDE Controller> It has 2 child drivers; Primary IDE controller(dual fifo)[ my two hdd's run under this] and Secondary IDE controller(dual fifo)[my CD-ROM runs under this]. Before the hdd contollers got screwed with it was the same except the one of the child drivers had (single fifo) after it.
I tried to remove the parent controller and reboot so it could find the right one and guess what happened? My system froze up becuase(I guess) there was no controller so it could'nt tell I had any hdds.
Folks I am so way over my head on this I have developed a he-- of a headache. Any assistance anybody can provide me might save me from a total breakdown.
